cast in situation
A cast in situ back garden with two sets of steps, and integrated firepit, bench and planter. We created a floating effect by casting in a recess at the base of the steps and planter. This shadow gap visually lightens the structures, allowing large objects to become elegant.
Steel fiber reinforced concrete. A great example of what we can achieve with little material. Although the structures appear solid, they have cast in cavities so the concrete is no thicker than 60mm at any point. The timer used for the form work was recycled from other projects and goes on to be reused. The firepit is lined with fire bricks with internal drainage.
The concrete is ground and polished to expose the 20mm marine aggregate. This was then finished with hardeners and a colour enhancing sealant. The stone in the concrete references the colour of the sandstone paving.
