scottish larch pavilion
We were commissioned to design and install a covered deck area for an outdoor kitchen.
There were a few challenges with this brief, the canopy needed to be made of toughened glass and storm proof. Also the flue for the pizza oven needed to pass through the canopy. We overcame these issues by designing the canopy in overlapping modules that allowed air to pass through. The glass had aluminium edging to ensure water was not allowed to be blown over into the covered area. We used our expertise in concrete production to cast a bespoke panel for the flue to pass through in a safe way.
The Larch was locally sourced and machined with a large herringbone detail in the deck. We burnt the main frame of the canopy to bring out the grain. The kitchen itself consists of a large reclaimed and reconditioned marble worktop, supplemented by concrete panels we had left over from a previous project. The effect is a luxurious and engaging exterior dining area.
